The Reds have already lost out on Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City this month.

Elsewhere, Man City want to sign Marc Guehi this month after they have encountered defensive issues.

Thankfully, it’s understood that Guehi prefers Liverpool to the Sky Blues, but a deal for the stopper is not expected to be done until the summer.

Another player who is thought to have been looked at by the Merseyside outfit is Yan Diomande.

Liverpool’s interest in Diomande should be taken ‘very seriously’, but he is wanted by several clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

However, the latest update on the winger’s next destination suggests it would take something special for the player not to end up at Anfield at some point in his career.

Speaking on The Tottenham Way podcast, journalist Marcus Buckland played down Spurs’ chance of signing Diomande, while mooting a potential Liverpool switch.

He said: “I’m still looking, as well as an out-and-out striker, and I appreciate that’s difficult. I mean, people mention the Yan Diomande at Leipzig, but by all accounts, he’s a massive Liverpool fan, and he’s got his heart set on going there.

“So that’s a little bit fanciful [that Diomande would sign for Tottenham].”

How would Liverpool use Yan Diomande

The 19-year-old, who has been called ‘remarkable’ amid links to Liverpool, already has seven goals and four assists in 16 matches for RB Leipzig this season.

Those goal contributions have largely come in the Bundesliga, which should be taken into account.

But Diomande is clearly a big talent with a bright future ahead of him.

On paper, he could be the long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, given he’s spent much of 2025/26 operating as a right winger.

However, the teenager is versatile and is also capable of competing on the left, an area in which Liverpool are lacking pace right now.
