There is now"no way"that Liverpool will look to sell"special"Champions League winner

There is “no way” that Liverpool will consider selling Joe Gomez in the January transfer window, according to former scout Mick Brown.

The 28-year-old is the Reds’ longest-serving current player, having been at Anfield since the summer of 2015, winning the Champions League and Premier League, among other trophies.

Gomez has been linked with a move away from Liverpool of late, however, with the Englishman potentially wanting to move elsewhere to be a regular starter.

Now, speaking to Football Insider, Brown has claimed that the Englishman will be going nowhere this month, especially after Conor Bradley’s season-ending injury:

“There’s no way Liverpool will let Joe Gomez leave. He’s been there for ages now, it’s easy to forget because he’s in and out of the team, but he’s become an experienced player in his time at Liverpool.

“He proves every time he’s called upon that he can still be a solid option, even if he’s never quite been able to nail down a place in the side. That’s why there’s been interested in him and clubs looking at him, because they can offer him more regular playing time and hope that will tempt him.

“And it may well be something that happens down the line, but losing Bradley is a huge blow to Liverpool and they were already short of centre-backs. Gomez being able to play in both of those positions makes him such an important player, and if there was any move on the horizon, I expect they’ll pull the plug on that.”

Will Joe Gomez leave Liverpool in the summer?’

Gomez has been such a stalwart for Liverpool, now spending over a decade at the club, with Arne Slot hailing him as “special” in the past.

It makes no sense whatsoever for the Reds to sell the defender in January, given the lack of defensive depth on show, but it may be different at the end of the season.

At that point, Gomez will only have one year remaining on his current Liverpool deal, so the Merseysiders could look to cash in, rather than losing him on a free transfer in 2027.

If he does leave, he will be remembered as a superb squad option, and had it not been for bad luck with injuries, he may even be considered a legend.
