“Advanced negotiations” – Manchester City close to signing Argentine attacker

Manchester City were initially interested in Vélez Sarsfield’s Maher Carrizo during the summer.

In July, we covered claims from Argentine of Manchester City’s desire to exercise his €16m release clause. Pep Guardiola’s side didn’t make advances, and the 19-year-old is still at Vélez Sarsfield. Since then, he’s extended his contract until December 2027.

The forward came through the ranks of the Argentine club’s youth system. He made his way into their first team in 2024 and impressed last year. Carrizo operated mainly as a winger, scoring 10 goals and contributing an assist from 35 matches.

Manchester City are now back in the mix to sign the young attacker. That’s at least what Soccer News in the Netherlands are reporting, and they cover the Premier League side when reporting about Feyenoord’s interest.

The Dutch club have identified him as a target to improve their attack. Feyenoord have made initial contact to try and sign him, but could be in for disappointment because of the Citizens.

According to the report, Manchester City are ‘likely to swoop in’ to sign the Argentine U20 international.

Manchester City in advanced transfer negotiations

Soccer News journalist Mounir Boualin claims the English club made advances even before Feyenoord could think of making progress. The Eredivisie won’t be able to compete with Manchester City, giving the latter an easy route to secure Carrizo’s services.

“I heard he’s in advanced negotiations with Manchester City. Yes, and as Feyenoord, you can’t compete with that,” he said.

Vélez Sarsfield are willing to sell

River Plate have also tried to sign the youngster. They previously reached an agreement before the move collapsed. Therefore, Vélez Sarsfield have now decided to sell him to a club in Europe.

Feyenoord thought they had a good chance. However, Soccer News claim Vélez Sarsfield are ‘willing to sell’ the player to Manchester City.

The report doesn’t specify whether Guardiola’s side are looking at him for January or next summer.
