‘A matter of love’ – Liverpool player ‘provides assist’ for Anfield exit

Earlier this week, TuttoSport shared local confidence that Juventus will come close to meeting Liverpool’s demands for Federico Chiesa.

The Turin club had initially offered a loan with an option to buy but can now put forward a purchase obligation to try and make the deal more attractive.

Liverpool have been informed about these intentions, having only wanted Chiesa’s permanent exit. It was believed that Juve’s new offer has already been prepared.

The 28-year-old is increasingly eager for a return to Turin, largely due to a good relationship with Luciano Spalletti.

Today’s Gazzetta dello Sport reports a move back to Juventus is a ‘matter of love’ for the winger. He is now willing to take a major wage cut to help the Bianconeri sign him this month.

The newspaper sees this as something which ‘provides the assist’, not just to Juve but to Liverpool too.

Liverpool player taking wage cut is key

The Old Lady saving on wages can help them meet the Reds’ demands for a permanent transfer. They can offer a higher loan fee or a higher fee in the obligation to buy clause.

The Italy international’s current wage stands at €6m per season and that could have been difficult to match for Juve. That is why many in Turin appreciate Chiesa’s approach to the transfer.

Wages are usually quoted after tax in the Italian football media.

Salah return could see move spring into action

Talks have been ongoing for about ten days now between the two clubs, with initial contact weeks before that. Liverpool want a fee of €12m as that is what they paid to initially sign him. Due to Chiesa taking a wage cut, a deal looks an awful lot more possible.

Mohamed Salah’s return from AFCON can potentially spark the move, as Arne Slot’s side wouldn’t want to lose Chiesa in the absence of the Egyptian.

Egypt play their semi-final against Senegal at 5pm.
