How Man United must respond to Barcelona's request for Marcus Rashford deal

Barcelona have been in contact with Manchester United about Marcus Rashford’s future in 2026.

Marcus Rashford was frozen out of the Manchester United squad under Ruben Amorim, and he ended up joining Barcelona on loan for the 2025/26 season.

It is well reported that there is a £26 million buy option for Rashford which Barcelona can choose to trigger in the summer to make his stay permanent.

Since Amorim has now been sacked and Michael Carrick has been appointed as head coach, it raises the question of whether Rashford could return to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

But Rashford has been in fine form for Barcelona and recently won the Spanish Supercup against Real Madrid, so the Spanish side are naturally looking to make him a permanent addition.

Barcelona in talks for cheaper Marcus Rashford deal

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Barcelona have held a meeting this month to discuss options around a deal for Rashford.

Barcelona prefer not to trigger Rashford’s buy clause and have instead been in contact with United to discuss a lower fee.

A second loan deal with an obligation to buy in 2027 has also been discussed between the two clubs.

Rashford wants to stay at Barcelona and the Catalan side are eager to make it happen, but pressure is now being applied on United to lower their demands.

Man United must stay stubborn on Marcus Rashford price

Just a few years ago, United valued Rashford at £120m and were swatting away interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

His drastic drop in form combined with being frozen out of Amorim’s squad saw his value plummet, but even a £26m deal is a ridiculously cheap fee.

United cannot afford to be bullied in the transfer window, regardless of Rashford’s desire to leave for Barcelona.

Rashford’s contract is valid until 2028 so United should be under no pressure to drop their demands.

Especially as United need to improve their PSR situation desperately and Rashford’s sale would be a huge bonus to the club’s financial health.
