Andy Robertson claim sums up why talk of Liverpool replacing Arne Slot remains despite unbeaten run - opinion

Arne Slot’s impressive debut season, which saw Liverpool win the Premier League, now feels like so long ago.

In late 2025, the Reds endured a run of nine defeats in 12 matches across all competitions.

This saw Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool called into question. However, FSG stuck with their manager, and the Dutchman remains in the dugout.

Since the more serious talk of Slot leaving, the Merseyside outfit have gone on an 11-game unbeaten run in the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Positive? Yes, but while things have improved on paper, fans still want Slot gone, and it’s easy to see why.

Why Liverpool fans want Arne Slot replaced

The unbeaten streak has done little to stop supporters growing tired of the performances, while those aforementioned 11 games without defeat actually aren’t that impressive.

Slot could easily point to the fact Liverpool haven’t lost since November to say things are now good.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

But just a quick glance at recent matches will tell you otherwise. The Reds just about beat Wolves because, well, it’s Wolves. They only just edged past Tottenham Hotspur, who ended the game with nine men, and even the recent 4-1 win over Barnsley, though it ended up being comfortable, was far closer than the scoreline suggested.

In the midst of the 11-game unbeaten run, there have also been draws with Leeds United (twice), Fulham and Sunderland, teams that the Liverpool of last season, especially at Anfield, would have beaten.

To make matters worse, the Reds’ performances have been so underwhelming in recent weeks, with Slot seemingly happy to hamper his side’s attacking output to shore up his weak backline.

Andy Robertson summed up the issues perfectly in an interview this week, as per BBC Sport.

He said: “Some of the performances still have to be better.

“Within this run, we’ve got draws against Leeds, Sunderland – games you’re expected to win. But within that, there’s the draw at Arsenal, a win at the San Siro and things like that.

“Going 11 unbeaten is good. We’ve stopped the bad form, but we need to still lift the levels of performance. Everyone knows that and that’s what we’re working towards.”

How weird would it be to see Jurgen Klopp manage another team? At least Alonso can come to Liverpool…

Some, very prematurely, thought the second half against Arsenal was a turning point for Liverpool.

But as expected, the Reds continued to lack any real creativity in the final third when they were up against League One opposition last time out.

They will now play Burnley on Saturday, a team they should be dominating and beating 3 or 4-0.

However, the way Slot has his side set up now means it will probably be another cagey affair that fans, even if Liverpool win, will come away from disappointed.
