Liam Rosenior explains what is going to influence his decision on making transfers this month

Liam Rosenior has probably joined Chelsea at the right time, with the January transfer window currently open.

Ideally, Rosenior would have liked to have had a pre-season, but he at least has the opportunity to make signings if the club’s sporting directors give the go-ahead for reinforcements to be brought in.

There could also be exits at Chelsea this month as several players continue to be linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.

DECISION TIME: If Liam Rosenior gets to pick one midfielder signing this month, who should it be?💰

Have we missed anyone…

Liam Rosenior wants to see how Chelsea players perform before deciding whether to act in transfer window

Before making any decisions on transfers, Rosenior wants to see more of this Chelsea team. The 41-year-old has only been in charge for one game, last Saturday’s 5-1 win against Charlton Athletic.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with Arsenal, the Chelsea head coach told The Standard and other outlets: “Yes, we’re in January and, yes, we want the club to be as successful as possible in the short term, but I also think sometimes the answers lay within the building and not outside.

“So I’ll make a decision on that with the guys, probably later in the window when I’ve seen everyone play.”

SCENARIO: You are one of Chelsea’s sporting directors and Todd Boehly has given you £60m to spend in January. Who are you signing?

Your potential shortlist could include:

Mike Maignan

Marc Guehi

Rosenior has inherited a talented squad, boasting the likes of Moises Caicedo and Estevao Willian.

Caicedo will miss the Arsenal game because of suspension, but Rosenior says Estevao could start, so he may end up getting another look at him on Wednesday night.

Sitting eighth in the Premier League table, though, it is quite clear that Chelsea’s squad could still be improved.

The one player Liam Rosenior should ask Chelsea to sign

Assessing Chelsea’s squad, central defence is probably the main area of concern. They have had more than one injury there this season and could do with some more experience in that department.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi represents a golden opportunity to address the above. He ticks plenty of boxes and is available to sign.

The former Chelsea academy product is out of contract at the end of the season, so Palace are willing to do a deal to avoid losing him on a free transfer. Chelsea should be all over this.

They have already watched Antoine Semenyo join Manchester City. They should not let the same thing happen with Guehi.
