Conor Bradley breaks silence after having surgery on season-ending knee injury

Conor Bradley says his Liverpool “comeback starts now” after undergoing surgery on his knee injury.

The Northern Ireland international suffered a season-ending injury in last week’s goalless draw with Arsenal while making a clearance. He left the Emirates on crutches, and further tests sealed his fate.

While the injury does not involve anterior cruciate ligament damage, it is still serious enough to rule Bradley out for the remainder of the campaign. Head coach Arne Slot described the setback as an “enormous blow” for both player and club following Monday’s 4-1 FA Cup win over Barnsley.

Bradley has now spoken publicly for the first time since the injury, posting on social media after undergoing surgery earlier this week.

He said: “A big blow but surgery is done so the comeback starts now.

“It won't be for a little while but I already can't wait to get back playing for Liverpool and Northern Ireland. Thanks for all the support.”

Liverpool have not set a timeline for Bradley’s return, but he is not expected to feature again this season. In his absence, Arne Slot will have to rely on summer signing Jeremie Frimpong, with Joe Gomez and academy defender Calvin Ramsay as his deputies.

Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has also been used in the role at times this season, but Slot admitted after the win over Barnsley that it is not a long-term solution.

He said: “It is an enormous blow for him [Bradley] but as a result of that it is a big blow for us as well, because I hope you don't think I would like to play Dominik Szoboszlai as a right full-back.”
