Manchester City group reach agreement in principle to sign Tottenham striker

Tottenham Hotspur have been very active in the ongoing January transfer window.

It looks like Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of sanctioning another winter exit as Manchester City’s ownership group fortifies its move to sign a 22-year-old Argentine footballer.

CFG side Bahia have already made an offer for Alejo Veliz

Should Tottenham let go of Alejo Veliz to CFG?

According to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo (writing for UOL), City Football Group (CFG) have been quite keen to bring the Lilywhites centre forward to their books. He insists that the Brazilian side Bahia is looking like a possible destination for the 22-year-old should he sign with CFG.

There were links that saw Brazilian giants Flamengo looking to sign Veliz earlier this winter. But it looks like another Brazilian club (Bahia), which comes under the CFG wing, is pushing the hardest to land his signature.

Tottenham brought in Veliz from Rosario Central in August 2022 after his impressive performances with the Argentine club. But he has not quite shown his potential during his time in North London.

And these struggles in Europe continued beyond N17, as neither of his loan spells with Sevilla and Espanyol came through as a success.

Struggling with confidence, the North Londoners sanctioned the 22-year-old’s return to Rosario Central in July. And that has worked well, given that he has taken up his form again, notching five goals in 16 appearances this season.

But it looks like his future could again be away from his boyhood side.

Merlo insists that Bahia have already made an offer to sign the Tottenham player. He described this offer as “quite high” without giving any exact numbers for the deal. And to highlight his news, Merlo added that there is already an agreement in principle with Tottenham for the transfer to happen.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz returned to Rosario Central on a season-long loan deal.

Following the aforementioned reports, TyC Sports says that this has come out as a “complete surprise” to those at Rosario Central.

The 22-year-old trained with his temporary employers’ squad on Tuesday. He is prepping for a friendly against Almirante Brown, which is scheduled to kick off today. And TyC Sports suggests that Wednesday will be key to getting more gist of things, given whether manager Jorge Almiron includes him in the squad or leaves him out.

If the latter happens, it will be a strong signal that a transfer away from Rosario and possibly even Tottenham is imminent.

While this is a transfer which will not get a lot of headlines in Europe, this is a massive one in the context of South American football. And if the transfer were to go ahead, it looks like the 22-year-old’s time at Hotspur Way may soon draw curtains.
