Kai Havertz will aim to play a pivotal role for Arsenal in their Carabao Cup clash against Chelsea. The two London giants are poised to face off in the first leg of their semi-final at Stamford Bridge, with the Gunners eager to end their trophy drought.

The match holds additional importance for Havertz, who made the switch from Chelsea to Arsenal in 2023. Despite scoring decisive goals in the Champions League and Club World Cup finals during his three-year stint at Chelsea, the German forward struggled to fully hit his stride.

His transfer to Arsenal signalled a new beginning, with Mikel Arteta entrusting him as the team's primary striker. However, an injury-ridden 2025 has hampered his progress.

At just 26, Havertz has already experienced a rollercoaster career. He has previously opened up about the effect those highs and lows have had on his wife Sophia Weber.

Difficult Spell at Chelsea

Havertz and Weber have known each other since childhood and started dating in 2018. When the promising striker transferred from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea in 2020, Sophia relocated to London to be with him.

Despite helping Chelsea clinch the Champions League in his debut season, Havertz openly discussed how criticism of his on-field performances affected his personal life. When he failed to score consistently, it wasn't just Havertz who felt the pressure.

"Football is our life. If you lose a game, of course, you don't have an easy life as well," Havertz explained. "I think everyone at home, especially my girlfriend, has had some tough weeks as well in the last weeks and months. I think she is happy now again and so am I.

"For you guys, it is the same – if you have a bad day at work... you... I won't say the word now but you don't feel good. Football is a game where we have a lot of pressure on our shoulders."

The pair tied the knot in July 2024 and revealed they were expecting their first child several months later. However, during her pregnancy, Sophia endured a barrage of online abuse after Havertz saw his penalty saved in Arsenal's FA Cup loss to Manchester United last January.

The model and social media star, who has over 500,000 Instagram followers, shared screenshots of the vile messages she had received following the match. Hertfordshire Police later confirmed a 17-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications.

Sharing some of the message on social media, Sophia's initial post was captioned: "For anyone to think it's okay to write something like this is so shocking to me. I hope you are so ashamed of yourself."

Her second post regarding another message read: "I'm not sure what to even say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this."

Staying grounded

Sophia is frequently spotted cheering on her partner from the stands. While supporters might imagine that Havertz enjoys a lavish lifestyle as a Premier League footballer married to a model, he's revealed how his relationship actually keeps his feet firmly on the ground.

Speaking to the Guardian in 2023, he said: "Everything moves fast: the last few months is a good example. Everyone's upset with me, I don't score, I play rubbish, this is bad, that's bad, they have to sell me. Now I score and everyone says I am the best player.

"People love me now but maybe in two weeks, they hate me again. No matter how well I played, I come home and my girlfriend wants me to put the plates into the dishwasher."
