There could be some big changes to the Liverpool squad once the 2026 summer transfer window rolls around.
Liverpool are expecting a quiet January, with little to no senior additions likely to be made.
Not an ideal situation for fans, but it may hint that FSG are no longer backing Arne Slot ahead of a potential exit later this year.

Whether it is Slot or another manager in charge next season, though, it’s become crystal clear that changes at the back will need to be made.
Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of June, while the latest information suggests Joe Gomez’s time at Anfield is coming to an end.
How do you think Liverpool should handle the contract situations of Konate, Van Dijk, and Gomez?

Joe Gomez expected to leave Liverpool
Gomez moved to Anfield in 2015, signing from EFL outfit Charlton Athletic.
He has since made over 250 appearances in the last decade and was called ‘superb’ after facing Crystal Palace earlier this season. But he has largely struggled to hold down a regular starting berth.

Now, speaking to Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch has said it is very unlikely Gomez will be at Liverpool come the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
He said: “I think you can make the case to sign a centre half who can play right back because you can 100% guarantee Liverpool are going to need one of those next season because Joe Gomez is very unlikely to be here.”

How will Liverpool replace Joe Gomez
While Lynch mentions Liverpool may need right-back cover when Gomez leaves, Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and youngster Calvin Ramsay will be options next term.
At centre-back, however, the Reds will be left with just three senior players for a full campaign.
In turn, that is probably going to be their focus in the 2026 summer transfer window, with Marc Guehi the obvious option if he’s still available.
Guehi prefers Liverpool to Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola’s side are trying to get a deal done this month, whereas FSG are aiming to move in the summer.
