According to NY Daily News Sports’ Gary Phillips, the New York Yankees have traded for left-hander Ryan Weathers in a deal that sends four prospects to the Miami Marlins. These prospects are Dillon Lewis, Brendan Jones, Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus. Ryan Weathers has a 3.74 ERA over 24 starts the last 2 years, but also has plenty of bullpen experience. The lefty is only 26 and won't be a free agent until 2029. His dad, David, played for the #Yankees as well. https://t.co/FxCjxh0it8— Gary Phillips (@GaryHPhillips) January 14, 2026 Weathers’s 2025 season with the Marlins was marked by injuries that limited him to eight starts. He posted a 2-2 record with a 3.99 ERA over 38 1/3 innings, striking out 37 batters while walking 12, resulting in a 1.28 WHIP. A left flexor strain sidelined him early, and a lat strain kept him out from June until September. Upon return, he showed promise in outings like a shutout win against the Washington Nationals but struggled in others, including a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Over his career, the 26-year-old left-hander, drafted seventh overall by San Diego in 2018, has compiled a 12-23 record with a 4.93 ERA across 70 appearances (55 starts) and 281 innings, amassing 235 strikeouts. After debuting in 2020, he faced ups and downs with the San Diego Padres before a 2023 trade to Miami, where he improved in 2024 with a 3.63 ERA. Story continues below advertisement
