Lewis Koumas has held talks with Liverpool over whether he will see out his loan with Birmingham City until the end of the season after only five league starts so far.
Koumas enjoyed a Liverpool debut to remember in 2024, with a goal at Anfield, and he followed that up with an impressive 2024/25 season on loan at Stoke.
He played 49 times, starting 31 times, and notched six goals and three assists, and it attracted the attention of Birmingham City, who have taken the young forward on loan this season.
Koumas, however, has started only five of his 21 Championship outings, racking up a total 770 minutes across all competitions; and it has led to speculation over whether Liverpool will recall him early.
“We’ve obviously had conversations (with Liverpool) but I’m keeping my head down, working hard and we’ll see what happens,” the 20-year-old told Birmingham Live.

“Last year I played 49 games and started a big majority of them. It’s been a different start this year but whenever I get put in I’m ready to give my best.
“I really like the gaffer. He sees my attributes well. We spoke about it before I came in and I’ve been working hard in training for months and months now, just so I’m ready when I go on the pitch.”
The forward has enjoyed more minutes on the left wing in recent games due to the absence of Demarai Gray, but Liverpool will want assurances over his minutes before the end of the January window.

Koumas is evidently taking it in his stride as to whether he stays or leaves, but admitted he is a confidence player, with his goal against Coventry earlier this month an important barrier cleared.
“Getting a goal, especially against a team like Coventry, boosts your confidence instantly,” he explained. “Me being a confidence player, I need that to go and perform freely without any sort of pressure on my back.”
Liverpool have already recalled James McConnell, James Balagizi (injury) and Owen Beck (injury), and there are doubts over Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas after a lack of minutes.
