Canadian Edey (ankle) out at least six more weeks

Canadian centre Zach Edey will miss at least six more weeks as he continues to recover from a stress reaction in his left ankle, the Memphis Grizzlies announced Wednesday morning.

“Edey will continue on his current plan of offloading and rehabilitation, with a reevaluation to follow in approximately six weeks,” the team said as part of their announcement.

The injury was originally diagnosed on Dec. 11.

Edey, 23, hasn’t played since Dec. 7. He was averaging 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds in 11 games this season while playing 25.8 minutes a night prior to going down.

The Toronto native was selected No. 9 overall by Memphis in the 2024 NBA Draft and finished fifth in Rookie of the Year voting last season.

The Grizzlies also announced that Canadian forward Brandon Clarke is progressing well in his recovery from a Grade 2 right calf strain and is expected to return to play in four-to-six weeks. The Vancouver has played in two games this season and averages 4.0 points in 10.0 minutes.

Memphis enters play Wednesday at 17-22 and occupies the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.
