Mohamed Salah is on the verge of leading Egypt to another Africa Cup of Nations as the Pharaohs face Senegal in Wednesday's semi-final.
How to Watch Senegal vs Egypt
Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is targeting a piece of history as he leads Egypt into an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Senegal on Wednesday. The Pharaohs have won the AFCON title more than any other nation with seven successes to their name, though Salah wasn't part of the squad when they last lifted the trophy in 2010.
Salah, who has scored in every round of this year's tournament thus far and has four goals to his name, has finished as an AFCON runner-up on two occasions. However, a supremely talented Senegal side stands between him and a place in Sunday's final.
The Lions of Teranga have blazed a trail to the competition's last four after scoring 11 goals and conceding just twice across their last five games in Morocco. Egypt's path hasn't been quite as straightforward, however, after requiring extra time to beat Benin in the last 16, followed by a nail-biting 3-2 victory over the Ivory Coast in the quarters.
Senegal has featured in two of the last three AFCON finals and beat none other than Egypt on penalties to win the competition in 2021. Pharaohs coach Hossam Hassan will be wary of the fact that his side has scored a single goal in their last five run-ins with Senegal, whose defense has been the envy of the rest of the field.
