Liverpool risk being snubbed by Man City once again this transfer window
Liverpool may need to ramp up their pursuit of Marc Guehi this month or risk missing out on him for the second transfer window in a row.
The Crystal Palace captain was due to join the Reds last summer in a sensational Deadline Day move, until Oliver Glasner’s side withdrew in the final hours. The Premier League clubs had agreed a £35 million fee for Guehi prior to the late collapse in talks.
Liverpool are still very much in the running to sign the England international but Manchester City appear to be becoming an increased threat as the days go by.
Man City a threat to Liverpool’s Marc Guehi pursuit
Alongside Liverpool, both Manchester City and Arsenal are in the running to sign Guehi. It was reported earlier this week that the centre-back prefers the idea of moving to Anfield but of course, with any transfer window, contrasting reports always rear their heads.
According to The Independent, Man City ‘are intent’ on signing Guehi this month and have already begun talks over a potential deal. Pep Guardiola’s side are looking to ‘persuade’ both Guehi and Palace to finalise a deal during the winter window and are ‘prepared’ to match any other offers they might receive.
To make things more concerning for Liverpool, the centre-back is said to be ‘open’ to the move to Manchester. Should City beat them to the punch, they will lose Guehi again, but this time it will be permanently.
It is inevitable that Guehi will leave Crystal Palace this year but it remains unclear who will win the race for his signature at this point. Reports will continue to swirl around his position until a deal is finalised but until then, expect plenty more twists and turns in this transfer story.
Man City threaten to beat Liverpool twice in one window
City are working on a deal for Guehi and if they are successful in their pursuit, it will be the second time this month that they have beaten Liverpool to a key transfer target.
The Reds had been keen on signing Antoine Semenyo as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah but Pep Guardiola beat them to the punch. City confirmed the signing of the winger on January 9th after paying Bournemouth a £64 million fee.
Semenyo has taken to life at City seamlessly, scoring on his debut in the FA Cup and then contributing to his new side’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
