Marcus Rashford has been reinvigorated at Barcelona, but could the Catalans be looking to get back around the negotiating table?

Marcus Rashford’s fall from grace at Man United was a surprise to everyone after becoming the talisman for the club he grew up supporting.

Injury, a loss of form and then the appointment of Ruben Amorim led to the England international joining Barcelona on loan with the Catalans having a bargain £26m option to buy clause inserted in the deal. The La Liga league leaders’ financial position is well reported and there is little chance of the 28-year old joining Barca permanently, unless there is a re-negotiation of the initial contract.

Barcelona to make Man United proposal for Marcus Rashford

With seven goals and 11 assists, Rashford has rediscovered his form in the Spanish sun and his numbers would be greatly appreciated at Old Trafford given the problems in front of goal this season. Whether or not Amorim’s departure will have changed his plans is yet to be seen. According to Ben Jacobs at talkSPORT via X, Barcelona certainly haven’t changed their opinion and are keen to get back round the table: “Barcelona held a meeting this month with #MUFC to explore options for signing Marcus Rashford permanently.

“Barcelona prefer not to trigger the €30m buy option and instead sounded out #MUFC over a lower number and also floated the idea of a second loan with a conditional obligation. Rashford is intent on staying at the Camp Nou and Barcelona want to keep him. Further talks expected closer to the end of the season to try and reach an agreement.”

What Rashford has said about staying at Barcelona

The goalposts might have moved for United, but Barcelona have made Rashford feel wanted and is loving every minute of being at the Nou Camp: "I don't see anything here as like a pressure. It's just, I'm here to play football," Rashford told BBC Sport. "It's been amazing. I feel welcome, I feel at home. I've just been enjoying every step of the way."

"It's a new language of football," said Rashford. "I've always been, like many people in the world, an admirer of Spanish football. To play for the biggest club in Spain is a huge honour. I'm looking forward to playing more games here, just doing my best and try to help the team to win. It's a club that demands this," he said.

"The environment is always pushing us to be the best players we can be so it's perfect to be in a place like this as a player." It will be a tough sell to persuade Rashford that his home is still Old Trafford even if a new manager wants to build the team around him.
