The Memphis Grizzlies have had a season full of injuries this season. Ja Morant has only played in 18 games so far this season. Scottie Pippen Jr. has struggled to stay healthy, as well. No one has been more injured for Memphis than Zach Edey.
Edey has appeared in just 11 games this year. He missed the first part of the season as he recovered from a stress fracture in his foot. Now, he is dealing with a left ankle injury that has been diagnosed as a stress reaction. He hasn’t been able to help Memphis much at all this year.
Because of that, the Grizzlies sit just 10th in the Western Conference standings. With all of these injuries affecting them, Memphis has the seventh-worst offense in the NBA. The Grizzlies have just given a disappointing injury update on Edey moving forward.

Grizzlies’ Zach Edey Will Miss at Least Six More Weeks
According to the team, Edey will be re-evaluated in six weeks. That means he will likely be out longer than that. That means that they will have to figure out how to keep teams out of the paint defensively, as he has become one of the best rim protectors in the league early in his career.
As a rookie last season, Edey only played in 66 games. Injuries have been a story for him thus far, but he has still been an effective player when he has been out there. Brandon Clarke is going to be out for at least 4-6 weeks as well, so they are short on big men.
With both Edey and Clarke out, Jaren Jackson Jr. has more pressure on him to protect the paint and perform on defense. He has struggled with foul trouble in his career, so it’s more important than ever for him to remain disciplined as the season unfolds.

The Grizzlies Are Still Fighting to Make the Playoffs
If the season were to end now, the Grizzlies would participate in the play-in. Without depth in the front-court, it will be hard for them to make up much ground in the standings. There are also rumors floating around that they could end up trading Morant.
Trading Morant would likely end any hope of them making the playoffs. Morant, when healthy, is still the best player that Memphis has. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy, though, and he has the worst stats since his rookie season so far this year.
The Grizzlies look like they are focused on turning the page of the Morant era, which would help Edey in his growth as a young player. Morant drives the paint to be effective, and Edey is someone who lives in the paint on the offensive end of the floor.
Unless these injuries start to get better, Memphis is going to be sitting at home when the postseason begins.
