“It is very clear that Rich Paul… wants Anthony Davis traded before the deadline,” explained Tim MacMahon on the Hoop Collective Podcast. “He believes it’s in Anthony’s best business interest, especially since he took a ‘We’ll see’ from the Mavericks about an extension as a ‘no.’”
The hand injury Davis suffered complicates matters. He chose not to undergo surgery and is expected to be out until at least the end of February. Whether he returns with Dallas or a new team could depend on the Mavericks’ position in the standings and their priorities for the season versus draft positioning.

Sources indicate that the Mavericks are exploring trade options, but only for the right deal. They are not under pressure to move Davis just to make a transaction.
“Rich Paul is not going to bully us,” one member of the Mavericks’ organization said. The team remains focused on getting meaningful returns in any trade—draft picks, promising young talent, or financial flexibility.
Davis is owed $58.5 million next season and has a $62.8 million player option in 2027-28. While the agent is actively seeking a move, insiders suggest that Davis could very well remain with the Mavericks past the deadline and even into next season.
