Report:£10m asking price as Liverpool star willing to accept pay cut to leave

Reports continue to link Federico Chiesa with a possible return to Juventus, with the Italian reportedly open to taking a pay cut to make a return to regular minutes.

Chiesa’s future has come under the spotlight during the January transfer window following a difficult spelll since his move from Juventus in August 2024.

The 28-year-old has struggled for minutes under Arne Slot, starting just two Premier League matches and finding himself well down the attacking pecking order.

This season, Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz have all been preferred in forward areas.

Last term, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, who have since moved to Bayern Munich and Al-Hilal respectively, were also ahead of Chiesa as Liverpool went on to win the Premier League title.

Federico Chiesa willing to accept pay cut to move to Juventus

With game-time limited, speculation over a January departure has intensified, and Juventus are understood to be eager to bring the winger back to Turin.

The Serie A giants currently sit third in the table, four points behind leaders Inter Milan, and are looking to strengthen their attacking options.

A return to Italy could also boost Chiesa’s hopes of securing a place in the national squad ahead of this year’s World Cup, should Italy qualify.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Fiorentina forward could be set for “a new era at Juventus” under head coach Luciano Spalletti.

How much would Chiesa sacrifice financially by leaving Liverpool?

The report adds that Chiesa earns around £5.2 million per year at Liverpool but is willing to accept a reduced salary to rejoin the Bianconeri.

However, reaching an agreement may prove difficult. Liverpool are currently stretched in attack, with Isak sidelined by a broken leg and Salah away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Hugo Ekitike has only recently returned from a hamstring injury, while 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha remains inexperienced at senior level.

Juventus are pushing for a loan deal, but Liverpool are said to be firm in their stance, favouring a permanent sale.

The Reds are keen to recoup the £10 million fee they paid for Chiesa 18 months ago. Talks between the two clubs have reportedly been ongoing for at least 10 days, with Juventus hoping to convince Liverpool to accept a loan with an obligation to buy based on appearances and performance-related clauses.
