Curry, the 1994 Sixth Man of the Year, ranks second in career points scored in Hornets history with 9,839. He spent 10 of his 16 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988–1998) and has remained a key figure for the franchise as a team ambassador and television analyst.

He is also the father of Golden State Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Seth Curry. This season marks his 17th year as Charlotte’s TV analyst, totaling 27 years with the organization overall.

Hornets owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin made the decision to retire Curry’s jersey to strengthen the team’s connection to its history and legends.

Since acquiring the franchise from Michael Jordan in 2023, they have brought in new leadership including president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson, head coach Charles Lee, and president of business operations Shelly Cayette-Weston.

They are also overseeing a new state-of-the-art practice facility, the Novant Health Performance Center, expected to open in spring 2027.

With this honor, Curry joins Bobby Phills (No. 13) as only the second player in Hornets history to have his jersey retired, cementing his legacy as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
