As the January transfer window nears its halfway point, Liverpool have yet to make a major signing, though they could be forced into action soon.

The window has been quiet across the Premier League, but Manchester City’s acquisition of Antoine Semenyo may ignite activity, as well as Tottenham Hotspur completing the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.

Pep Guardiola’s side are eyeing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, which could complicate Liverpool’s plans. Guehi is said to prefer a move to Anfield, but City may test that preference.

Elsewhere, Federico Chiesa remains linked with a return to Juventus. Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is back in the transfer spotlight.

After leaving Liverpool, Keita joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer in June 2023, but managed just five league appearances, including a single start.

Keita initially spent five seasons at Liverpool, making 33 appearances in his debut campaign, which saw the Reds amass 97 league points and claim European Cup glory with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid.

During his time at Anfield, he also contributed to Liverpool’s success in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, and Club World Cup.

Injuries limited him to 13 appearances in his final season, but he left the club having won 91 of 129 matches, losing just 20 – a win rate of 70.5 per cent.

In January 2025, Keita moved to Ferencvaros on loan. The move has now been made permanent by the Hungarian side. A club statement read: “Naby Keita has finally joined Ferencváros! Our club has reached an agreement with German side Werder Bremen regarding the Guinean international midfielder, whom we signed after his loan contract expired!”

Since joining Ferencvaros, Keita has featured in 28 matches for the Hungarian side. He was part of the team that celebrated last season’s championship title and has made 20 appearances in the NB I this campaign, contributing five assists. Keita has also played in two Champions League qualifiers and five Europa League qualifiers for Ferencváros.
