Charlotte Hornets set to retire Dell Curry’s iconic No. 30

Most modern NBA fans know Dell Curry as Stephen Curry’s father. For fans of the Charlotte Hornets, Dell has been the color commentator on home broadcasts. However, the elder Curry is a Hornets legend before all that, one of the franchise’s greatest ever players.

Steph changed basketball with his shooting, but Dell was one of the original greatest three-point shooters. Curry played 16 years in the NBA, out of which 10 were in Charlotte. The franchise’s second all-time leading scorer, Curry, will now have his No. 30 retired by the franchise.

During his time in Charlotte, the sharpshooter scored 9,839 points for the team. He also won Sixth Man of the Year in 1994, and helped the Hornets make the playoffs on four occasions. Although his resume might not be enough to see his jersey retired at some bigger franchises, Charlotte should honor him.

His son Steph has also worn the No. 30 throughout his career, and will have his jersey retired in Golden State. It’ll be a rare honor for the family as both father and son will be in the rafters for their respective long-time teams.

Since retiring from the NBA, Dell has been associated with the Hornets in different roles. He has been calling games since 2009, and currently also serves as an ambassador for the team. Curry deserves to be forever enshrined in Hornets history, and it’s set to happen in March.
