West Ham target Chelsea back-up keeper to replace Areola

By Louis Nixon

**Filip Jörgensen has recently been a name that’s surfaced for West Ham in their search for another goalkeeper, but they might’ve encountered issues.**

Since signing for Chelsea, Jörgensen hasn’t really been able to secure a sniff of a first-team spot and ultimately has only played their ‘outsider’ matches. This season, he’s only managed to play in 7 games, and across the entire last season, he played 24 matches, 12 of which came in the Conference League.

It has become apparent this January window that signing a new Goalkeeper might be something that Nuno would like and Filip Jörgensen seems to be his person of interest. Which comes with its complications, as under Chelsea’s old manager, Enzo Marseca, this deal might not have been too difficult, but under Liam Rosenior, that changes.

Liam Rosenior likes to play with his goalkeeper higher up the field and therefore has to have a Goalkeeper good with their feet, and as time needs to pass, he’ll likely want to try both Sanchez and Jörgensen before either is sold, meaning it becomes a very complex deal for the Hammers.

According to general reports, the Danish international would be open to joining West Ham if the opportunity presented itself, but in all honesty, given Chelsea’s owners and track record, I believe it would be a very difficult deal to pull off and might be one to walk away from and spend our money elsewhere.

I could potentially see a deal being struck if it were to be a loan with an obligation, the obligation being triggered if the Hammers stayed in the Premier League. This, of course, would be anticipating that we could agree on a fair fee with Chelsea, who signed him for around £20 million in the 2024 summer window.

A signing who could certainly prove to be very good, but a price would have to be agreed upon, and in all honesty, at this given moment in time, I believe other positions are a bigger need, such as a centre-back.
