The Golden State Warriors have been linked to Michael Porter Jr. in recent NBA trade rumors, and could send Jonathan Kuminga out to get him.

The Golden State Warriors have just one day before they can officially trade Jonathan Kuminga, and after a long saga, all signs point to them moving away from the 23-year-old wing as soon as possible.

At the same time, the Warriors have been heavily linked to Michael Porter Jr. of the Brooklyn Nets in recent trade rumors. With his size and shooting ability, Porter would fit well with Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green on head coach Steve Kerr’s roster, regardless of the other assets Golden State would have to give up in a trade.

Speaking on Run It Back on FanDuel TV, former NBA player Chandler Parsons urged the Warriors to make a deal that would send Kuminga to Brooklyn for Porter, a move that, as the days go on, seems more and more like a possibility.

“It makes sense (for both teams,” Parsons said. “This dude (Porter) isreally good. He was the number one player in high school…he’s always had the talent, he’s flourishing right now, and I want to see him on a contender.”

Golden State would likely have to include Kuminga, a pick, and a few other assets in a trade, considering the contract differences between the two players, but if it means giving them a better shot at a title, it’s hard to see them not making that move.

Warriors Urged To Make Massive Kuminga For Porter Trade

Golden State has been linked to both Porter and Trey Murphy of the New Orleans Pelicans in recent trade rumors. However, as Parsons mentioned, the asking price for Murphy might be too high, despite their reported interest in Kuminga. Brooklyn, however, appears ready to continue their rebuild, and while theprice for Porter might be high as well, Parsons believes Kuminga fits better for their apparent direction.

“When I think of the Warriors, I think Michael Porter, I think Trey Murphy,” he said. “I think I heard, Trey Murphy, they want three first-round picks for him, which I think that’s a lot…I think the Brooklyn Nets, where they’re at right now as a franchise, they could take on a Kuminga and (he can be) one of their pieces moving forward.”

The trade the Run It Back crew offered up was Kuminga and a first-round pick for Porter, which, considering his strong play this season, is hard to imagine. Porter is averaging 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists on 49.1% shooting. Kuminga, on the other hand, has only put up 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists on 43.1% shooting, and hasn’t seen any on-court action in nearly a month on Kerr’s roster.

While Kuminga’s value appears to be dropping, Porter’s has only risen this season, and with what he showed during the first few seasons on the Denver Nuggets as a major piece in their championship run, he could offer that same skillset for the Warriors.

“He was just on a contender, and we kind of, the fans were tired of him, the fans wanted him out of there, and how he’s just putting up 26 a game, and he’s a hot commodity,” Parsons added. “He’s exactly what Golden State needs…Get him out of Brooklyn while his value is high.”

Parsons’ co-host, Lou Williams, also added that if he were Porter, he would be pushing for a deal to go to Golden State.

Warriors Mock Trade To Add Porter and Cut Ties With Kuminga

If Murphy is off the board, which, according to insider Chris Haynes, appears to be the case, the Warriors are predicted to do whatever they can to add Porter and give themselves a chance at winning one more championship in the final few seasons they have with Curry.

While not the trade idea offered up by Run It Back, Sam Vecenie recently outlined a deal that would send Porter to the Bay Area, and at the same time, finally end the Kuminga situation.

Here’s the three-team trade he discussed for The Athletic:

Golden State Warriors receive: Michael Porter Jr.

Brooklyn Nets receive:DeMar DeRozan, Moses Moody, Buddy Hield, Devin Carter, the Warriors’ 2026 first-round pick, 2028 first-round pick swap with Warriors

Sacramento Kings receive: Jonathan Kuminga, Haywood Highsmith, Ziaire Williams

Sacramento has had long-term interest in Kuminga, and while, like the Nets, they don’t appear to be contenders anytime soon, adding the 23-year-old would give him a chance to spread his wings and show his true value in the league.

“This is their all-in move for one last ride with Stephen Curry,Draymond Green andSteve Kerr,” Vecenie wrote on this trade. “It’s hard to find a better fit for Golden State than Porter, too. We know that he can be an integral part of a title team, and his skill set is exactly what the team needs betweenJimmy Butler and Green as a real shooter who can also occasionally create his own shot.”

Steve Kerr hasn’t shown any interest in giving Kuminga a chance to prove himself with the Warriors, and just one day before he can officially be traded, he looks to have already played his last game in Golden State.
