Nikola Jokic has resumed on-court workouts and is on track to return for the Denver Nuggets by the end of January. His rapid progress could keep him in contention for MVP and All-NBA honors.
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic is making encouraging progress in his recovery from a left knee hyperextension, according to Shams Charania.
Denver Nuggets / Schedule
"A big development here, Nikola Jokic has resumed on-court workouts for Denver, and he's right on schedule, if not a little bit ahead of schedule, making his return to the lineup by the end of this month, Charania said on NBA Today. "That's about that four-week initial early timetable that they had."
Nuggets are feeling positive about Jokic’s recovery, with the team expecting him to return to action by the end of January.
"The Nuggets are optimistic Nikola Jokic will be able to return by that late January mark. He's making great progress, rapid progress. If he is able to make it back by late January, it would also give him a window to be eligible for the postseason awards, MVP, and All-NBA teams," he added.
Jokic, who went down with the knee injury in late December, was originally given at least four weeks to recover.
While he has been out, Denver has managed a 5-3 record over the last eight games. The team has also welcomed back Aaron Gordon and Christian Braun from their own injury layoffs, while Jamal Murray continues to lead the Nuggets on the court.
The Serbian big man has been having a historic season, averaging a triple-double with 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 11.0 assists per game.
His early return could not only bolster Denver’s playoff push but also keep him in contention for MVP and All-NBA honors.
