Mavericks have a key condition on when to trade Anthony Davis

Dallas Mavericks are exploring trade options for Anthony Davis but are only willing to move him if they get a favorable deal. Salary, availability, and draft pick demands have made negotiations complicated, and no agreement is close yet.

Dallas Mavericks are actively exploring trade options for Anthony Davis, but league sources say the team is being selective about any deal.

Dallas Mavericks / Schedule

While talks have been ongoing with several teams, Dallas has told potential suitors that they will only move Davis in the next three weeks if the trade is favorable, per Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Mavericks are not rushing to trade the big man, despite some local fans pushing for a quick move. The team appears to believe that a bad deal does not benefit anyone in the organization.

Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, has been pressing Dallas to finalize a trade before the February 5 deadline, hoping that his client can secure an extension with the next team. However, no current negotiations have reached the point of a concrete agreement.

One major hurdle is Davis’ massive salary. Earning $54.1 million this season, it is difficult for any team to match Dallas’ financial demands in a two-team swap without including expiring contracts the Mavericks may not want.

His availability has also been an issue — Davis has played in only 29 of 73 possible regular-season games since joining Dallas and has appeared in just 20 games this season, averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.

Draft capital has also been a sticking point. Teams looking to trade for Davis would need to offer valuable picks, but balancing that with contracts Dallas is willing to take has made creating an attractive offer challenging.

The Mavericks currently sit 12th in the Western Conference with a 15–25 record, outside the Play-In spots.
