White on win, goal and refocusing for next game

Ben White scored his first goal of the campaign tonight as we take a crucial 3-2 aggregate lead back to Emirates Stadium in the Carabao Cup semi-final with Chelsea.

Our No. 4 headed home inside six minutes to give the Gunners a key advantage in the first leg of the tie at Stamford Bridge, with Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi adding further goals to seal a win in the first 90 minutes.

White analysed an entertaining spectacle in south-west London, expressing his delight at the win and also touching on what can be improved moving forward to maintain the highest standards.

"Obviously we're delighted with the win, we didn't play as well as we probably could have, and the transitions we probably didn't handle as well as we should've," he said following the final whistle.

"But, yeah, we scored three, won the game, and it's onto the next one now - we need to win that."

White has discovered a familiar opponent against whom to score in Chelsea, with his previous Gunners goals coming as a brace in a 5-0 rout over the Blues back in 2024.

"I just found myself free, went into the area where the ball was supposed to go, and it just hit me really!"

"Was it really, my last one? When I scored two? Oh, I like it here!"

Ben also played a tremendous part in our second goal, as Gyokeres pounced on some uncertainty in Chelsea's six-yard box to fire home a classic striker's goal from the right-back's dangerous ball into the middle.

"We always want to play quickly," White explained.

"It's when we can be in those one-on-one situations which is amazing for us. I knew that Vik was going to be waiting in there, and I literally just fired it across as hard as I could, really."

"It's amazing [for Gyokeres to score]. You see how much he works during the game, and he doesn't get the credit that he deserves, and yeah it's amazing for him to score tonight."

We have just a three-day turnaround before we return to Premier League action, taking on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in Saturday's late kick-off.

The showdown in the east Midlands is our third of four successive away matches in as many competitions, something White relishes, as he also thanked the buoyant Stamford Bridge away end for their admirable, ardent backing of the Gunners.

"We're ready to go again. We'll move onto the next game - that's our aim.

"The fans were amazing; they're always amazing. It's no shock that they come here and you can hear them all night, so yeah, we all really appreciate it."
