Sources close to Fox Sports reveal Knight is currently a frontrunner for the role. The 34-year-old, who last played in Puerto Rico for Capitanes de Arecibo, hasn’t been in the NBA since the 2021–22 season with the Dallas Mavericks.

The former No. 8 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft would provide a much-needed boost for the Wildcats, who are currently without David Duke Jr. and Jaron Rillie-the latter recently undergoing hamstring surgery and sidelined for an undisclosed period.

Since departing the NBA, Knight has played in Puerto Rico and Greece. His most recent stint with Capitanes de Arecibo, he averaged 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 22 appearances.

Knight has a 10-year career in the NBA, originally drafted by the Detroit Pistons, he would go on to play for Milwaukee, Phoenix, Houston, Cleveland and Dallas.

The 489-game NBA veteran is currently a free agent represented by Joel Bell of Bell Management International.

With the Wildcats sitting in fifth place at 14-10, Knight would be expected to fill a crucial role at point guard as the team pushes for a finals berth.
