Jason Kidd drops huge Cooper Flagg update after ankle injury exit vs. Nuggets

Flagg left prematurely with a left ankle sprain in the Mavs' Wednesday home loss against the Nuggets.

The Dallas Mavericks endured another gut-wrenching injury blow on Wednesday after Cooper Flagg went down with an ankle injury.

Flagg left with six minutes to go in the second quarter of the Mavericks' home matchup against the Denver Nuggets. He was defending the driving Peyton Watson and landed on the ground, holding his left ankle.

Flagg was hobbling and subsequently entered the locker room. He still returned to the game, but the Mavs eventually announced that he would not play in the second half after suffering from a left ankle sprain.

In his postgame presser, Jason Kidd addressed what happened to Flagg and offered uncertainty if the reigning No. 1 pick will play on Thursday against the Utah Jazz for the second night of their back-to-back home stand.

“He stepped on someone's foot and so, I think last game he twisted his ankle too. So, they decided to hold him for the second half,” Kidd told reporters.

As stated by Kidd, Flagg tweaked the same ankle in the team's 113-105 win over the Brooklyn Nets, but was able to return and finish that contest.

The Mavericks have been dealing with the injury absences of Anthony Davis (hand) and Kyrie Irving (ACL) already. As such, Flagg wasn't the only one who left the Nuggets matchup as big man Daniel Gafford also sustained a right ankle sprain.

Regardless of whether he'll play or not against the Jazz, the Mavs certainly hope that Flagg didn't sustain a serious one, which will require him to miss significant time.
