Eddie Howe has guided Newcastle United to multiple Champions League qualifications and Carabao Cup success.

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Eddie Howe would “win things” as Manchester City manager.

That is quite the climbdown from his previous position, when Jordan questioned Howe’s credentials following his Newcastle United appointment. Criticism was levelled at his relegation at Bournemouth and refusal to take the Celtic job.

However, four years on, Jordan has become an admirer due to Howe’s success on Tyneside. The Toon boss has guided Newcastle to multiple Champions League qualifications and the Carabao Cup trophy.

Simon Jordan on Eddie Howe at Newcastle United

“I said from the outset that I didn't think he'd lead them (Newcastle) to the Holy Grail,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “I think Eddie Howe could manage an elite football club, could manage his country, could manage most football clubs that have got the budgets to be successful. He doesn't have the budget to be successful at Newcastle.

“He's achieved what I consider to be quite remarkable things at Newcastle. He's built a team worth watching that a lot of people consider to be their second team. I didn't jump in line with the love-in of them winning the League Cup last year because I'm not a Newcastle fan, but I am an admirer of his.

“As far as Eddie Howe's concerned, how can he win anything bigger? How? How can he go toe for toe with Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal? I like Eddie Howe. I think Eddie Howe is capable of achieving something. The circumstances at Newcastle prohibit him from getting here.”

Eddie Howe for Manchester City?

Jordan also suggested Howe would be a good fit for Man City once Pep Guardiola leaves. He added: “If Eddie Howe were managing Manchester City, Eddie Howe would achieve some of the things that previous Manchester City managers have achieved with the kind of money they've had.

“He would achieve the things that (Manuel) Pellegrini achieved. He'd achieve the things that (Roberto) Mancini had achieved. It might be a reach to say he goes as far as Guardiola, but he would be winning things bigger than the League Cup.”
