Erling Haaland has carried a heavy workload for Manchester City so far this season. Haaland is Manchester City’s top scorer this season with 26 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions. Although he has only scored one goal in his past six appearances. Manchester City’s lethal marksman has looked fatigued of late, something that Pep Guardiola spoke about after his team’s massive 2-nil win over Newcastle United in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. Erling Haaland is pushing through fatigue for the cause but he does need a rest at some point to freshen up for the battles ahead.
Pep Guardiola has shared that Erling Haaland is exhausted.
In quotes relayed by Simon Bajkowski for the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola said after his team’s win over Newcastle, that he wants Omar Marmoush back from AFCON duty with Egypt to give Erling Haaland the opportunity to rest. Guardiola said that City’s top scorer is exhausted. He explained: “*Hopefully Omar will be back soon to give rest to Erling because Erling is exhausted but how you overcome things as a team is the point.*”
Manchester City aren’t as reliant on Erling Haaland’s goals as fatigue has hit their top scorer.
Earlier this season, Manchester City was heavily reliant on Erling Haaland’s goals. The reliance on Haaland has faded as other players have contributed to the scoresheet with more regularity. The fact that City has other players contributing goals has coincided with Haaland noticeably playing through fatigue. Although it must be said that Haaland deserves credit for consistently fronting up for his team game after game. He has scored only one goal in his past six appearances, but Haaland’s dry spell, which has coincided with fatigue setting in, isn’t a major cause for concern. If Haaland can rest at some point, the goals should start flowing again for the Norwegian international. Having said that, it is highly unlikely that Haaland will be rested for this weekend’s Manchester derby or for City’s upcoming Champions League fixture against Bodø/Glimt in Norway.
Omar Marmoush’s return from international duty should allow Haaland to get the rest he needs. The Egyptian international should return from AFCON duty ready to go after playing a prominent role in the tournament. If that occurs, Haaland can have the rest he needs after recently pushing through fatigue for his team.
