The Romeo Lavia mystery continues at Chelsea, having spent ten weeks out since his latest injury setback.
Chelsea find themselves short of options in the middle of midfield, with Dario Essugo, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Andrey Santos at Liam Rosenior‘s service.
However, one injury could be fatal, especially if it’s to one of the main three.
The January transfer window does provide the opportunity to make an addition in that area, but it seems as if Chelsea are waiting for any opportunities.
One player who would help the situation is Romeo Lavia, but his situation is a mystery.
Romeo Lavia’s injury record could force Chelsea to sign a new midfielder in 2026. Who would you buy if Kobbie Mainoo isn’t available?
Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have both been mentioned 👀

Romeo Lavia has been spotted leaving games, but his injury is still unclear
The stats since Lavia joined Chelsea are shocking.
Lavia has spent a total of 589 days on the injury list since joining, and has been available for less than 25% of Chelsea’s total fixtures since the BlueCo takeover.
There has been an update on the midfielder, but it’s not the kind of update fans were hoping for.
According to the Daily Mail, he has been seen exiting Stamford Bridge after the odd game through the press room, accompanied by one of the club’s security personnel.
However, the 22-year-old’s latest injury remains a mystery amid a lack of updates.
It’s time to cut our losses and sign a player who can actually run 🤕
Thoughts?

Does Lavia deserve a future at Chelsea?
Lavia is still sidelined with a thigh/quad injury sustained in early November.
But that’s not the issue, it’s the sheer amount of games Lavia has missed to date and the injury history over the past two and a half years.
There comes a point where Chelsea seriously have to consider whether it’s all worth it. Yes, he has plenty of potential and on his day can be a starter for the Blues, but he’s rarely ever fit.
Given Chelsea’s light midfield situation, you cannot pin your hopes on Lavia giving you a full season with only a few other options.
