The Dutch defender was also once linked with a Celtic Park move in 2023.
A Rangers transfer target has revealed he’s begun ‘talks’ with other clubs after being linked with an Ibrox move.
As the January transfer window reaches the halfway stage, Danny Rohl has been busy. Following the weekend signing of Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz, The Light Blues have now finalised the deal for Belgian left back Tuur Rommens and are on the verge of signing Danish winger Andreas Skov Olsen on loan from Wolfsburg.
With Hearts and Celtic both winning their respective games in hand last night, The Hoops leapfrogged Rangers in the table, while Hearts extended their lead at the top to six points. However, with a lot of football to be played, a strong Gers transfer window could be the difference, as they seek their 56th Scottish top flight title.
Rangers target opens ‘talks’ for potential pre-contract agreement signing
According to The Daily Record, Rangers transfer target Xavier Mbuyamba has been told by his current club Volendam that he is able to move in the summer once his contract runs out. The 6’ 5” centre back was once ‘dubbed the next Virgil van Dijk’ and was once also on Celtic’s radar under Ange Postecoglou.
Dutch media claim the 24-year old defender’s future still remains uncertain. Mbuyamba said: "There are some talks. But we'll have to see about that. It will take some time. If I stay here, then that's fine, and I'm happy with that."
Mbuyamba has been at Volendam since 2022 after moving from MVV Maasrticht. Before that he was on the books of Barcelona and Chelsea in their respective academies. The centre back helped Volendam win promotion back to the Eredivisie last season.
Mbuyamba ‘ready’ for the step up
The Dutchman, who has represented his country at youth level, was diagnosed with a heart rythm disorder before the start of the 2023/24 season, however he is adamant this will not hold him back in terms of career progression.
He told NOS: "I understand that clubs inquire about it, but I've shown over a long period that I can handle a higher level, so it doesn't affect my game at all. Besides, I'm perfectly fit. Therefore, I wouldn't understand why clubs would turn me down. I often don't even notice the box is there.
"If I don't leave now, I'll be gone next summer. I don't care if Volendam makes any money from me. That has nothing to do with me. I'm ready for a step up. And until then, I'll do my absolute best here."
