West Ham have had an enquiry knocked back to sign Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports.
The 18-year-old has had limited game time this campaign, and there have been rumours that he could leave the Emirates on a temporary basis during the January transfer window.
Football.London claim that the Hammers did try their luck but their approach was “rebuffed” by both the Gunners and Nwaneri himself.

It is believed the teenager is happy to remain patient and stay at the Emirates, at least until the summer.
Nwaneri has been compared to Lionel Messi
Speaking on TNT Sports back in February last year, following a 2-0 win over Leicester City, former West Ham player Joe Cole said the youngster’s style of play reminded him of a Barcelona legend:
“He’s a strong little thing. You can’t mark him because he can go both ways”These touches he produces in and around the box, I don’t want to say it, but it’s like Messi.”
“I don’t want to put any more pressure on the kid’s shoulders. I’m sure he’ll deal with it. He plays with such confidence and he’s a beautiful player.”
West Ham are looking to replace Paqueta
Considering Nwaneri’s natural position is as a no.10, it clearly suggests that the Irons are looking at contingency plans if they lose Lucas Paqueta this month.
The Brazilian international was left out of the matchday squad for the 2-1 win against Queens Park Rangers in the FA Cup at the weekend, with speculation rife about his future.
Paqueta is said to be keen on returning to Flamengo but his former club are struggling to stump up the funds required to match West Ham’s asking price.
