Alex Caruso uses Giannis Antetokounmpo to explain dealing with Victor Wembanyama

Giannis Antetokounmpo remains one of the hardest players to defend in the league. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar’s combination of size, length, mobility, athleticism and power makes him a walking mismatch on any given night.

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso, regarded as one of the best on-ball defenders in the league, recently mentioned the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player when going a little in depth on what it’s like to deal defensively with San Antonio Spurs ultra-unicorn Victor Wembanyama.

“Offensively, he’s still really raw… His length is an issue but he’s not as strong as a Giannis, like a Jokic, Sengun, KD even… That’s something you have to use to your advantage,” Caruso said following the Thunder’s 119-98 win over the Spurs at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Can Wemby have a better career than Giannis Antetokounmpo?

Against the Thunder, Wembanyama had 17 points on 7/15 shooting from the field with seven rebounds, an assist and a block. It wasn’t an eye-popping stat line, but he definitely is capable of having an incredible performance against any team on any given night.

Antetokounmpo is a unique player, which also explains why he’s accomplished so much in his NBA career. Wemby could have the same career as “The Greek Freak,” if not a better one, given the tools that he already has and his oozing potential. But based on Caruso’s assessment, Wembanyama is still catching up on the power department.

Just 22 years old, Wembanyama has everything in front of him.
