Liverpool have seen their centre-back ranks depleted this season, and there doesn’t appear to be concrete plans to strengthen in January.
Marc Guehi is wanted by the Reds, but the latest information is that a move for the Crystal Palace man wouldn’t be done until the summer.
So where does that leave Liverpool this season? Well, they only have three fit centre-backs, one of which is Joe Gomez.

Gomez could leave in the summer, is injury-prone and now Conor Bradley is out, he will be needed as right-back cover for Jeremie Frimpong.

Jarell Quansah wanted to leave Liverpool
Well, David Lynch has now commented on Quansah’s exit when speaking to Anfield Index.
And he said that the fact that the centre-back was actually very keen to leave Liverpool gets ignored massively.

He stated: “The Quansah one you know he’s doing well out in Germany but I don’t think anybody sat there kind of saying they’re absolutely full of regrets that he went.
“But it really does it kind of gets ignored massively – he was so keen to leave you would not believe it. Worth noting that he’s not a boyhood Liverpool fan, you could sense it at the back end of last season that he wanted to leave.”
“People think because he’s a local lad, you know, he’s only from Warrington and, you know, he’d been at Liverpool for such a long time that he would only possibly have wanted to leave because he’d be forced out by a manager who doesn’t like him.
But he wanted to leave because he wanted to play football and Liverpool could not offer him that or couldn’t offer him enough football that would have satisfied him.”

Arne Slot could have stopped Jarell Quansah’s exit
Quansah has since made 21 appearances and scored two goals since his move to the Bundesliga.
Still only 22, the Englishman could have had a bright future at Liverpool.
However, he was behind Ibrahima Konate in the centre-back pecking order last term.
While hindsight is a wonderful thing, Slot perhaps should have handed Quansah more minutes ahead of the Frenchman last season.
Konate has been off his game for large parts of 2025/26, and at present, he is due to leave Anfield for free in the summer.
It means Liverpool probably need to sign two centre-backs, rather than just one, had Quansah stayed, when the next window rolls around.
