**Liverpool legend Andy Robertson has provided a new update on his Reds future, admitting it remains very much up in the air currently.**
The 31-year-old has become an iconic figure at Anfield over the past eight-and-a-half-years, arguably becoming the best left-back in the club’s history.
Robertson is out of contract at the end of this season, however, and speaking to reporters \[via [_This Is Anfield_](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2026/01/andy-robertson-liverpool-contract-talks-options/)\], he claimed that he is no closer to extending his stay, as he weighs up his options:
_“We’ll see what happens. We’ve had chats now which will remain private. I’ve spoken to them and we’ll see what happens. Would I like to stay? Yes, but it’s a difficult question to ask. I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that._
_“I’ll sit down with my family and decide. After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it, and being a Liverpool player._
_“I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and, thankfully, we’ve managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants moving forward._
_“The relationship is good. It’s not quite ‘what do they need to show me and what do I need to show them’ as we’ve shown each other more than enough respect over the last eight-and-a-half years, and we’ll see what comes.”_
**Should Liverpool offer Robertson a new deal?**

Robertson still has plenty to offer Liverpool, even though he is approaching his 32nd birthday and isn’t the world-class left-back he was in his younger years.
He can remain an excellent squad option behind Milos Kerkez for another couple of years, so the Reds would be wise to tie him down until the summer of 2028, for example.
That said, Robertson may not like the idea of being a backup player moving forward, instead feeling that a move to another club where he is a key starter makes more sense in the autumn of his career.
The Scotland captain’s experience and winning mentality aren’t something you can find easily in a player, though, which is why signing a new contract should be the preferred outcome for Liverpool.
