The New York Knicks are on the verge of getting Landry Shamet back, which comes as a boost for Mike Brown’s team amid the Jalen Brunson injury news.
According to Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, Shamet, sidelined since Nov. 22 with a shoulder injury, was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice session and is gearing towards a return in the coming days.
“Injured Knicks guard Landry Shamet was a participant in practice at the Golden 1 Center on Tuesday, Brown said,” reported Winfield. “Shamet has been out with what the team is calling a right shoulder sprain since sustaining the injury three minutes into a Nov. 22 loss to the Orlando Magic.
“Shamet has been taking controlled contact, according to the team, but the Knicks did not practice with any contact on Tuesday.”

Landry Shamet Injury Update
The Knicks reportedly want Shamet to get through a few more practice sessions before being cleared for a return. As such, it’s unlikely he will play Thursday night against the Golden State Warriors, but could be cleared for Saturday’s clash vs. the Phoenix Suns.
Shamet was a key piece of Mike Brown’s rotation before sustaining his injury. In 15 games, including six starts, Shamet had averaged a career-high 9.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists at elite shooting splits of 45/42/80, while making 1.9 threes per game. Those numbers had risen to 10.7 points and 2.0 made threes in his final 10 games in November when he started several games due to injuries to some key starters.
The Knicks, who’ve lost six of their last eight games, could desperately use the 3-and-D presence of Shamet, especially in the wake of Brunson’s injury.
Jalen Brunson Injury Update
Thankfully for the Knicks, their captain may have survived a significant injury.
According to The Athletic’s James L. Edwards III, Brunson left the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento without the assistance of a walking boot or crutches after spraining his right ankle in the first quarter of the 112-101 loss to the Kings on Wednesday night.

Brunson walked out of the locker room without a boot or crutches, which is a good sign .
The NBA MVP candidate limped off the court at the 7:01 mark of the first quarter after landing awkwardly on his leg during a play a minute earlier. He was initially listed as questionable to return by the Knicks, but he was ruled out of the game at halftime.
The Knicks did not have any update on Brunson’s injury after the game.
It’s worth noting that Brunson missed two games with a right ankle sprain back in November. As such, he could potentially be sidelined for at least two games again. However, it depends on the severity of the injury. Last season, he missed nearly a month of action after sustaining a right ankle sprain against the Lakers in March 2025.
The Knicks can’t afford to be without their best player for too long. Mike Brown’s team holds just a 0.5 lead over the third-seeded Boston Celtics, and a one-game lead over the fourth-seeded Toronto Raptors. A few more losses could lead to a plumett in the standings in a tightly-contested Eastern Conference.
