Andy Robertson unsure over Liverpool future

**Andy Robertson has revealed he is in talks over his Liverpool future.**

Robertson is now in the final five months of his existing contract at Anfield, where he has become an established figure and was installed as vice-captain for this season.

But the Scotland international has been forced to share his previous automatic starter role following the arrival of fellow left-back Milos Kerkez for £40 million.

Now 31, Robertson was touted for a potential move away from the Reds last summer Atletico Madrid, who failed to tempt him away from Arne Slot’s side.

Despite tentative discussions taking place, the £8M signing from Hull City admits a decision on staying with the Premier League champions is a ‘difficult question’.

“We’ve had chats now which will remain private,” said Robertson.

“We’ll see what happens. I’ve got five months left and we need to see the option to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.

“After a stressful summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being a part of it; being a Liverpool player.

“I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we’ve managed to do that.

“Obviously I need to speak to my family and see what we want, see what we want going forward and then I’m sure we’ll let you know when the time’s right.”

Robertson’s lack of first-team starts, with only four in the Premier League compared to Kerkez’s 11, and admits that regular football will be a factor in his final decision.

He added: “I can \[only\] focus on the last eight and a half years. I think Jurgen Klopp left me out of one game and I was raging! I’m a player who wants to play.

“I have a different role here this season which I’m getting enjoyment out of, but footballers want to play.

“If anyone is sat happy on the bench, then they don’t belong at any football club.

“If you’re happy to be at Liverpool, wanting to sit on the bench, then I don’t think you have the right attitude.

“I’ve played well in the games I’ve played this season. Maybe I’ve not played as much as I would have liked, but it’s nothing I’ve been surprised by.

“Let’s see what happens.”

Although his time on Merseyside could soon come to a close, Robertson insists that it will have no negative bearing on his long-term future relationship with Liverpool.

“I think I’m safe to say that I’ve done absolutely everything for this club in the last eight-and-a-half years and the club have been very good to me,” he admits.

“They rewarded me with good contracts when I’ve been playing when I’ve been playing well and obviously when you do play well, you’re rewarding yourself as well

“I’ve gave absolutely everything, day in day out. My history of injury is very good., The performances, I think, are good.

“Obviously I’ve won a lot of trophies and had a lot of good days here. So I don’t think it’s quite like what do I need to show in the next four months?’ or ‘what do the club need to show me?’

“My relationship with the people, higher up in the in the club has always been excellent since the day I came in. Signing me for £8M and doing what I’ve done.

“I think helps that, which I remind people of all the time!

“But the relationship’s really good with the people above.

“We’ve shown each other more than enough respect over the last eight-and-a-half years and whatever happens happens and we’ll see what comes.”
