Liverpool have been trying to bring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi to the club since last summer.
A £35m offer for the centre-back was rejected in the previous transfer window, but the Reds’ interest remains.
Guehi prefers a move to Liverpool despite interest from Premier League rivals Manchester City, who want to get a deal done this month.

However, it has been said that a 2026 summer transfer is the most likely outcome for the stopper.
Whether Guehi stays at Selhurst Park or moves in January, it appears Liverpool have an interesting plan for the England international.
New position for Marc Guehi at Liverpool
Throughout his entire playing career, the 25-year-old has played 337 games in his natural centre-back position.
He has been used as a defensive midfielder on two occasions, played at right-back twice and acted as a left-sided full-back once.

Yet, while speaking to Sky Sports, James Savundra has suggested that Liverpool would use Guehi as a right-back.
He said: “I think if Guehi comes in, they see him as somebody who could play as a right back more in a back three with a left back Milos Kerkez be able to bomb on and him drifting across on the right hand side because he’s a player who’s got so much ability on the ball.
“So they do have options there right now. We’ve seen Dominic Szoboszlai play at right back.
“Wataru Endo can also feature there. Jeremie Frimpong, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones. There are options that can fill in there. So, I don’t think this injury, as disappointing it has been, will force them to do anything.”

Will Liverpool replace Conor Bradley
Guehi operating as a right-sided defender would certainly be interesting.
But unless he moves in the coming weeks, which by all accounts seems unlikely, Liverpool are still light of right-back options now that Conor Bradley is out.
Bradley is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of 2025/26, leaving Joe Gomez (injury-prone and also the only centre-back cover) and Jeremie Frimpong as the only somewhat natural replacements.
However, speaking to The Athletic FC podcast, David Ornstein stated there are no plans to bring in a new full-back this winter.
He said: “Yeah, you’ve seen Szoboszlai, you’ve seen Joe Gomez, you could use Curtis Jones and Jeremy Frimpong.
“So from Liverpool’s perspective, there will be no recruitment for that position in January because the way they operate is not to make permanent signings for such a short period of time. And why I say a short period of time is because Bradley will be back for them, all being well, at the start of next season, at the start of pre-season.”
