Head coach Sean Dyche has revealed talks have been held with loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko about his situation at Nottingham Forest.

The full-back is due to spend the season at the City Ground on loan from Arsenal but has struggled to make an impact in the Garibaldi. Zinchenko’s lack of game time could see the Reds look to cut his spell short.

The complication the club have is there is no break clause in the player’s deal, while the Gunners have no space for him in their squad. Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash with Zinchenko’s parent club (5.30pm kick-off), Dyche did not clarify whether the Ukrainian has been told he can leave Forest but he did admit discussions have taken place.

“We have spoken to the player and made it clear in his situation. He is aware of that so we will see what happens,” the Reds boss said.

“We will see what happens. We are being very open with him. He is a thorough professional, he has been and I am sure he will be going forward, no matter what.”

Zinchenko has made just five Premier League appearances for Forest to date. He has been replaced by Ola Aina in the club’s Europa League squad now the Nigerian is back fit.

It has been a quiet start to the January transfer window for the Reds. Loaning summer signing Arnaud Kalimuendo to Eintracht Frankfurt is their sole significant bit of business so far.

Kalimuendo’s departure has, however, left Dyche short of options up front. Chris Wood is injured and there are question marks over Taiwo Awoniyi’s future, leaving Igor Jesus to shoulder the attacking burden.

“The obvious one is the striker area because we are a bit short there,” Dyche said when asked about transfer plans. “The club felt it was a really good deal for Kalimuendo to go out.

“We are looking at various options to bring in. That (a striker) is the obvious one that jumps off the page.

“You’ve got to be ready for the shifting sands of the market. It’s an unusual market, or a slightly different market, in the January window than it is in the summer.

“We’ve got to be proactive where we can be and reactive if things change. I think the club are well aware of that.

“I’ve had a good meeting from the owner all the way through the structure about what we think we’ve got and what we think we need. It’s aligning the right people and getting the deals done, which is often the hardest part - the actual process of getting the deal done and getting the player here.”
