Jonathan Kuminga has made a major decision on his future

Jonathan Kuminga has requested a trade from the Golden State Warriors, with the Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks, and Los Angeles Lakers among the teams showing interest.

Jonathan Kuminga, the fifth-year forward for the Golden State Warriors, wasted no time making his intentions clear once he became eligible for a trade: he wants out.

Golden State Warriors / Schedule

According to ESPN's Anthony Slater and Shams Charania, Kuminga has requested a trade from the team.

Under the terms of the contract he signed this past summer, Kuminga couldn't be traded until Thursday (Jan. 15), with the NBA trade deadline set for Feb. 5.

He began the season as a starter, appearing in the first 12 games, but hasn't seen any playing time in the Warriors' last 13 contests. This season, he's averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in approximately 24 minutes per game.

The Warriors spent much of the offseason negotiating to re-sign Kuminga, ultimately reaching a two-year, $46.8 million deal with a team option for the second season.

Sources tell ESPN that Kuminga felt pressured to sign that contract, which further strained his relationship with the front office, but it does make him an appealing, tradeable asset at the deadline.

Kuminga's $24.3 million team option for next season makes him a flexible target for teams seeking talent without long-term commitment.

ESPN sources say the Warriors are focused on acquiring expiring contracts in any deal for Kuminga.

They have pushed back on absorbing long-term deals unless the value is undeniable, which has slowed discussions with Sacramento.

For example, they are reluctant to take on the remaining three years and $60.4 million of Malik Monk's contract, though Keon Ellis—on a smaller, expiring deal—could be a potential sweetener in a trade.
