Burnley return to Premier League action on Saturday with a daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, following their FA Cup exploits last weekend.
The reigning Premier League champions have endured a difficult title defence this season and currently find themselves well off the pace set by leaders Arsenal after an early-season slump.
However, Arne Slot’s side have rediscovered their form in recent weeks, climbing back up the table and re-entering the tight race for Champions League qualification.
Liverpool are unbeaten since late November, but that run has not been without its frustrations. The Reds have dropped crucial points during that period, particularly against teams in and around Burnley’s position near the foot of the table.
Scott Parker’s Clarets head into the fixture in a precarious situation, sitting eight points adrift of safety in the relegation zone. A draw with Manchester United last time out offered some encouragement, but Burnley must begin turning stalemates into victories if they are to haul themselves back above the dreaded dotted line.
In terms of team news, midfielder Josh Cullen has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, while Connor Roberts, Zeki Amdouni and Jordan Beyer remain sidelined with longer-term issues.
There is better news, however, with Axel Tuanzebe returning from AFCON, and Joe Worrall is in contention to feature. Ahead of the clash at Anfield, Burnley manager Scott Parker has provided the latest update on his squad’s fitness.
Parker said: “Joe (Worrall) is in contention. He’s close now. He’s been on the grass and we’ll make a decision on him tomorrow before we travel. Zian (Flemming) won’t make it. He’s a little bit behind, but could be back for the next game.
“Lyle (Foster) is feeling a bit better after illness. He’s probably not quite 100 per-cent, but we’ll see how he is tomorrow and make a call on his availability thereafter.”
He added: “It’s been pleasing to get the lads back – they’ve brought a freshness into the group. Fresh eyes, fresh energy – which can only be of benefit.
“They loved their time with their respective countries, but they return fully-focused on the battle that lies ahead for us now. It’s been good to have them back.”
