Fabrizio Romano says one of Man United’s main forward targets ‘will leave’ in the summer.

However, in terms of the transfer window, Man United aren’t expected to make any major signings in January. They are more likely to save and spend big in the summer transfer window, when they know who their next manager will be moving forward.

They are likely to spend big on a midfielder, but are also linked to a Bundesliga forward, who has been linked to Liverpool as their long-term replacement for Mo Salah. There could be a bidding war in the summer.

Romano says Diomande will leave in the summer

Yan Diomande is a young winger who has generated a lot of Premier League attention as of late. The RB Leipzig forward is expected to command a heavy transfer fee of around £78m, and has been linked with Man United, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Spurs reportedly made a move to sign him in January, but it was quickly shut down by Leipzig, as the German club doesn’t want to sell Diomande during the season. However, it is understood that he could become available in the summer transfer window, which means United could spring into action.

Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel: “There is going to be plenty of interest for Yan Diomande, one of the most interesting wingers on the market, but Leipzig wants to continue with the player. They want to believe in Yan Dimoande, and they think the next six months can drive the price higher for the summer transfer window.

“If you think Yan Diomande will move in the summer? Yes. If you ask me if Diomande will move in January? I think this is going to be complicated because Leipzig already made big money in the summer. They don't need money now.”

Will Man United sign Diomande?

In terms of United, the winger role isn’t their biggest need in terms of new players, as a full-back and centre-midfielder strike as more pressing needs. However, now that the Red Devils are back to playing a back four, it means that attacking wingers become a lot more important with the lack of wing-backs.

Bryan Mbuemo is a must start for the Red Devils, but the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes won’t be able to feature on the flanks as successfully. So, with that in mind, Diomande could come in and claim the opposite wing to Mbeumo, providing Fernandes and Cunha with someone to play the ball out to, with Benjamin Sesko waiting in the middle.

Diomande seems a more likely fit for Liverpool because of the Mo Salah situation, but he would be a fantastic addition for Man United should the Red Devils be prepared to spend big on him in the summer.
