A new trade proposal has the Milwaukee Bucks dealing Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat
Over the last week, the situation regardingGiannis Antetokounmpo has gone from bad to worse for theMilwaukee Bucks. They’ve lost three out of their last four contests — capped off by theGreek Freak booing his own fans during a 139-106 loss to theMinnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, January 13 — to drop them even further out of playoff contention.
Antetokounmpo has not formally requested a trade (and it doesn’t look like he will), but the tension between the organization and its franchise player is palpable. If Milwaukee is, at some point, forced to make him available, nearly every team in the league will be calling with their best offer.

Why Miami Heat Make This Trade
Miami is an organization that is both superstar-driven (think Not One, Not Two, Not Three, Not Four…) and gritty enough to get a sum greater than the value of its individual parts (ever heard of Heat culture?). You couldn’t ask for a more perfect fit than Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Greek Freak’s resume speaks for itself, as he’s finished top-three in the MVP voting in three of the last four seasons and won a title in 2021. But he is clearly not satisfied sitting on his laurels. Antetokounmpo wants to go to an organization with a championship culture, and the Heat can offer it more so than any other team in the league.
It’s a lot to give up (almost half your team, as a matter of fact), but superstars like Antetokounmpo don’t become available often. And Miami is one of the few teams that could acquire him and convince him to stay for the long haul when hiscontractexpires after next season. Selling the house to get the Cadillac could work out in the end, for both Giannis and the Heat.
Why Milwaukee Bucks Make This Trade
All things considered, this is a great return for the Bucks, as they acquire some high-caliber players and a lot of future draft capital.
Trading away Antetokounmpo and Kuzma (who is also making big money this year) would signal the beginning of a tear down in Milwaukee, but Herro and Jaquez Jr. could help the team rebuild faster than some might anticipate. The former was an All-Star in 2025 who has battled injuries this season, and the latter is the quintessential three-and-D player every successful team needs.
The draft picks are a couple of years away, but the Bucks could end up using them to move up and acquire a star from the loaded 2026 class. Or try to flip them in a deal for another NBA superstar.
