"Everyone is so up for it": Cherries 'buzzing' for City cup tie, says Hennessy

AFC Bournemouth face the WSL’s City for their first ever fourth round tie in the cup and know it will be a huge test against currently the best side in the country.

But the squad cannot wait to face their visitors at AFC Totton.

Hennessy told the Daily Echo: “I think we're all absolutely buzzing for it. It's probably the best we've trained this week.

“Everyone is so up for it. The mindset is right, so we're just really looking forward to it now.”

As a defender, Hennessy will have a difficult task keeping the prolific Bunny Shaw quiet, amongst other stars in the City team.

Asked about how they have prepared for the game as a defensive unit, she explained: “I think training has been player specific.

“So us defenders, we know what we're going to do and what we need to do against some of the best players in the world, really.

“But as in analysis side, nothing really changes. We always have our analysis on each player, each striker.

“So the defenders will be looking at obviously the strikers and attacking players, we'll have a look and see what for the likes of Bunny, what she normally does, what she likes to do, her strengths and weaknesses.

“So nothing really changed changes in terms of that.”

Bournemouth have accepted that they are unlikely to see as much of the ball as they usually do, meaning they have had to adapt how they will set up.

“It's going to be a different game,” Hennessy said.

“Normally we're used to having the ball and passing it round, but obviously this game isn't really going to be like that.

“We’ve prepared in a way that we think will do harm and that we are just confident in how we're going to play this weekend, a bit differently, but it's still exciting and we know what we have to do.”

Asked if Macclesfield’s exploits as the tier six side knocked out Premier League and cup holders Crystal Palace in the men’s competition had inspired the Cherries, Hennessy said: “Yeah, definitely.

“I think the Macclesfield game just kind of puts a cherry on top for us because we know that we could be like them.

“We never go into a game thinking, oh, we're going to get beaten here, we're going to do this.

“You never know what's going to happen. I think that's what Bled's been saying to us all week. You just never know what's going to happen.

“We have confidence as a team that we can be beat anyone really.

“That shows, we're over a thousand days unbeaten [in the league], so any, any team that comes up, we're just going to go for it and see how it goes.”
