In his Howdy Partners podcast, ESPN's Tim MacMahon revealed that the Mavs had conducted a meeting from the previous week regarding Kuminga.
"I know that the Mavericks had a meeting about Kuminga last week," the Mavs reporter said. "It's an interesting deal because he is a former lottery pick who has shown glimpses but has not earned Steve Kerr's trust over the years. At 6'7" and athletic, he has shown the ability to score and is still very young.
"He has a team option for $24 million next year, so another team, like the Mavericks, could make a trade for Kuminga. The price isn't high right now, and it's kind of a flyer for the rest of the season."
On the first day of his trade eligibility after signing a two-year $48.5 million contract extension, Kuminga reportedly demanded to be dealt away by the Warriors. The Congolese star endured DNPs all season long and is currently buried on the team's bench under Steve Kerr.
As such, the Mavericks emerged as one of the key few teams that are interested in Kuminga.
Potentially pursuing Kuminga gives the Warriors a building block as they prepare for their future with reigning No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg. And as what MacMahon stated, Kuminga's 2026-27 gives them plenty of options for flexibility or possible deals.
As it is, the Warriors have been previously rumored as one of the key interested teams for Anthony Davis. It remains to be seen if a deal can materialize with the inclusion of Kuminga.
