Arne Slot appears to avoid Mohamed Salah question from reporter ahead of Liverpool vs Burnley

Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Saturday against a relegation-threatened Burnley side.

Arne Slot will be looking to make it 12 games unbeaten across all competitions when his side clash with the Clarets.

The Dutchman, despite an upturn in results, remains under some pressure, and there has been talk about an interim manager replacing Slot this season.

While not expected to happen right now, it was suggested Liverpool could make a short-term change if there is another run similar to what we saw at the back end of 2025 when the Reds lost nine in 12.

The defeats are unlikely to start this weekend, though, with pundits predicting a comfortable win over Burnley.

Ahead of the tie, the 47-year-old held his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

Slot discussed a number of topics when speaking to the media, including Mohamed Salah.

The manager was asked by one reporter: “Obviously you’re about to get Mo Salah back, just wonder how much of a positive is that for you, and how do you keep him happy so that there isn’t a distraction again as there was prior to his departure for the competition?”

However, Slot avoided answering how he will keep the Liverpool veteran happy upon his return following his outburst after Leeds United last month.

He said: “I’m happy that he comes back to us because similar to Andy [Robertson], Mo has been so important for this club, for me. So I’m happy that he’s back because it’s, even if he had 15 attackers, I still would have been happy if he would have come back. But that’s not our current situation.

“Happy to have him back after an important game he still has to play.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Salah, but given the talk around Slot’s future right now, another issue arising on that front would be a big burden.

The 33-year-old failed to start Liverpool’s last four Premier League matches before he left for the AFCON, and if that continues, it’s hard to see him sticking around much longer.

At present, it looks like, despite being under contract until the summer of 2027, the Liverpool hero could leave this summer.

He has interest from Saudi Arabia and the MLS, but whether such moves would be of interest to the Egyptian is unclear.
