Chelsea join Liverpool in race for Sheffield Wednesday defender as six-figure bid lodged -…

Sheffield Wednesday prodigy Yisa Alao has reportedly been the subject of a six-figure bid from Chelsea.

Amid the chaos at Hillsborough, Alao has enjoyed a swift rise to prominence having starred in the club’s academy.

The left-back only turned 17 in December but has already made four senior appearances this term, most recently equipping himself well against Premier League outfit Brentford in the FA Cup.

However, it appears they are not the only clubs on his trail. According to The Star, Chelsea have joined the Red Devils and the Reds in lodging a mid-level six-figure offer.

Wednesday are keen to retain the defender, who is not thought to be in any rush to depart Hillsborough.

A professional contract has been offered by the Owls, although Alao may have to consider his long-term future given what has transpired in S6 of late.

Wednesday have already lost three academy prospects to the Premier League, seeing Caelan Kole-Cadamarteri and Romario Collins join Manchester City and Sutura Kakay head to Southampton.

The loss of yet another highly-rated youngster would be a fresh blow for a club who have had to absorb plenty of the last year.

Yisa Alao’s breakthrough

Speaking to Wednesday’s website about the experience, he said: “It was unexpected, I didn’t think I would come on but you’ve got to be ready.

“It was a difficult one to come into as a young lad but I think the older players get around you, and the manager especially helps you confidence-wise to come on and play without fear.

“I thought we battled hard but it was just one of those games. It’s been a great run, all the young lads have stuck together and we’ve battled hard against some tough opponents, we’ve stuck together and got results but tonight we just fell short.

“It’s been a great experience, it’s what you dream of really. It’s brilliant to be around the first team and they’re really good at nurturing you as a young player. It’s been really good for my development.”
